Hero — looking for a new home
Hero is a wire-haired dachshund, 4 years old.
Very intelligent, observant, and trainable, but with a strong personality — he needs an understanding and attentive owner. Not suitable for a home with children.
Why we are looking for a new home
We are forced to find a new family for Hero due to changes in our family: my husband and I are separating, he is leaving the country, and it will be difficult for me to manage both a small child and a dog.
At home
* Prefers spending time at home
* Plays with balls and soft toys (may destroy them)
* Sleeps both in his bed and on the bed
* Can stay alone at home (if windows are closed — he sleeps calmly)
* May bark to demand attention → it is important to set boundaries
* Tolerates hygiene: washing, paw cleaning, grooming
* Could bark from windows on dogs
Walks and activity
* Prefers short walks
* Does not like bad weather
* Likes:
* snow
* swimming in the river
* chewing sticks
* chasing birds
* Fully house-trained, as long as the time between walks is not extended beyond 12 hours
* Walks well on a leash
* Off-leash — not recommended (may react to triggers)
* Used to wearing a muzzle
* Can wear protective clothing (for rain/cold)
Behaviour
Hero is an anxious dog outdoors, so he may show reactivity (aggression) to triggers.
Main triggers:
* children (except babies in strollers)
* scooters
* sometimes cyclists and runners
* non-neutered dogs
* flat-faced dogs (bulldogs, etc.)
* people who actively react to him
At the same time:
* he has his “own” dog friends
* loves puppies very much
* can play and be friendly in the right environment
He also needs time to adapt to new people. Therefore, large and noisy gatherings at home are not suitable for him.
He shouldn’t be leave alone at public place.
Transport and adaptation
* Comfortable on public transport (if there are no triggers)
* Not used to traveling by car
Grooming
* Grooming every ~3 months
* Calm with a familiar groomer
* Generally tolerates procedures, but does not enjoy them
Training
Knows commands:
* Sit
* Aus
* Fuss
* Come
* Stop
But does not always follow them and not on the first try — consistency and training are required.
Diet
* Main diet: dry food
* Likes: meat, vegetables
* Treats: rabbit ears, bones, dried snacks
* Sometimes eat too much, require a control of portions
Health
* Completely healthy

* No food allergies
* All vaccinations are up to date (Switzerland)
* Annual check-ups
* European pet passport available
Ideal home for Hero
* without children
* with experience in dog ownership (especially anxious/reactive dogs)
* willingness to work on his behaviour
* calm, predictable environment

Location
We live in Zurich, but are open to discussing relocation.
We love Hero very much and want to find him a calm, caring family who will understand and respect his needs.
